The R.C.M.P. Musical Ride that was hosted by Racing Against Drugs Durham was a very moving event for one student from Whitby Ontario. When Colin Arsenault, a grade seven student at West Lynde Public School of the Durham District School Board heard the news that the Musical ride was coming to town it brought to him excitement that transcended anything that could be imagined. Colin is diagnosed with autism and in the past had demonstrated little to no verbal communication beyond single words. When his school announced that their grade six, seven and eight choir would be singing the RAD theme song at the Musical Ride show and would be rehearsing in the music room over the lunch hour, Colin bolted from his classroom and ran to the music room bouncing with enthusiasm. When the rehearsal began Colin took his place and actually began to sing with the choir! He had learned the song from the previous year RAD event, although he had never demonstrated it.
